My window
shows a brilliant pair—
Orioles
Playfully
Woo in reborn branches, just
On the horizon—
A heron aloft.

It’s raining
grackles are grappling
outside my
window, but
I’m disinclined to crack on
and cater to birds.

A chipping sparrow
Struck my window, breaking its
Wee neck, and my heart.

Update:
I had carefully placed the sparrow in a branch of the Christmas tree I have on my deck. Its head appeared to be leaning to the right. I left it there in a sheltered spot to die peacefully. I watched and it was very still. I planned on picking it up later to lay it down underneath the cedars at the bottom of my garden.
Wonder of wonders! Thirty minutes had passed and my husband called out to me, it’s gone! He had seen it drop down from the tree and fly away. My heart is unbroken.
Chipmunk hailing me;
through the kitchen glass doors, he’s
silently pleading.

After some
Lovely-weather days,
We’re back to
Blowing snow
Beating against the windows;
Winter please just go!

Appropriately the same

Squawk the red trumpet;
Little winged ones take your flight—
Cooper’s hawk flushed out!

Woodpecker landed
On my deck rail yesterday—
Too quick for a pic.

Chickadee couple,
daily at my feeders—I
Couldn’t be more pleased.

From behind the drape,
Morning ornithology—
A feline “pursuit”.

Four in the morning,
Night sky alight with bright stars—
I just want to cry.
